Before you support bombing Syria, please take a look at current affairs in Libya. We were told the bombing there was for humanitarian purposes. After Gaddafi’s anti-western government was toppled, western businesses gathered to plunder the bleeding nation, but black markets cropped up everywhere and the country fell into further chaos. There was no talk from our leaders of humanitarianism after we got what we wanted.
“As world attention focused on the coup in Egypt and the poison gas attack in Syria over the past two months, Libya has plunged unnoticed into its worst political and economic crisis since the defeat of Gaddafi two years ago. Government authority is disintegrating in all parts of the country putting in doubt claims by American, British and French politicians that Nato’s military action in Libya in 2011 was an outstanding example of a successful foreign military intervention which should be repeated in Syria.” -The Independent
If we cannot “fix” what bombing does-then we should not bomb.? I am not saying there should not be some type of intervention-but why go ballistic and bomb first? We obviously cannot repair every country we have damaged with bombs-we can’t even take care of our own poor well.I am so happy some of our Texas Representatives and Senators have come out against this, but I am still very afraid-and like you Jim-having a hard time breathing thinking about it.I have found myself very, very busy trying to keep my mind off it-sometimes that helps-but not much.I have been writing, signing petitions-etc.Thank you Jim Rigby for being a voice for peace.I told myself this morning if we can do just a little bit of good then we are not” spitting” in the wind.
