It is very difficult, and very important, to remember that most major news media are owned by major corporations.  The filter used to select what counts as news cannot help being tied to the profit and loss of that corporation. When General Electric is both profiting from a war, and also reporting on that war through its owned news outlet NBC, we can expect certain links not to be made. One can expect the rich to deem as “experts” those who come from elite circles, and, more specifically, those who agree with them.

Media Matters has reported that the Wall Street Journal recently published a series of op-eds on the presidential race, without disclosing that many of them were actually written by Romney campaign staff. One expects the Wall Street Journal to be biased to the right, but one also expects them to reveal such conflicts of interest.
