I’m recording a radio show tonight on KOOP called “Remix” that airs on Wednesdays at noon. It’s fun show that plays a song list provided by the guest, and then has a conversation on what the songs mean. They’ll only use five, but here is my list of songs that mean a lot to me.

“Blood on Wire” by Jackson Browne. A chilling look at US covert activity in other countries.

“Morning has broken” by Cat Stevens. My kind of mysticism in a nutshell. It’s all about finding the miracle in the ordinary.

“Rebel Jesus” by Jackson Browne. A great Christmas song about the political meaning of Jesus.

“War pigs” by Black Sabbath. This is the song I only turn to as a last resort when my nation has committed another attrosity and I just can’t stand it any more. It is my padded cell.

“We can be kind” by Nancy Lamott. What can we do when everything around us seems cruel and crazy? We can be kind.

“Who’ll stop the rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Just a nice statement about the human condition.

“The stranger” by Billie Joel. A song about accepting what seems unacceptable in ourselves and others.

“People are strange” by the Doors. The anthem of Kantian metaphysics. “People are strange, when you’re a stranger.”

“Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix. I own this one to Rev. Sid Hall. I had no idea it was by Dylan and inspired by the biblical book of Isaiah.

“Long Train Running” Doobie Brothers. This one is easy. “Without love, where would YOU be now?”

-So what’s your list?
