The call to fight for peace is almost always the rhetoric of demagogues. If we would seek peace we must struggle instead to establish the just conditions from which peace will naturally emerge. While fighting is necessary on rare occasions, genuine peacemaking is more often slow and hard work. Only spiritual children believe they can oft reach the goal of lasting peace through the short cut of violence.
