I have been blogging on moderate voices emerging in the Republican party as a result of their electoral spanking a few weeks ago. It is a very good thing, but I don’t know what to do with this story. Bobby Jindal, who was the prototype right winger a few years back, was quoted as saying that the GOP should, ‘Stop Being The Stupid Party.’

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal told Politico. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

This mass conversion taking place in the Republican Party proves what many of us suspected all along. Most conservatives were never really happy with their party’s bashing of women, gays and the poor. Even some of the people, like Jindal, who participated in the bullying tactics did not feel right about it. Like all mob behavior, most everyone knows what they are doing is wrong but they are afraid if they speak against the lynchings they are afraid they will move from predator to prey.
